NBC Fall Preview

For a network that has been struggling to provide long lasting new content in the last few years, NBC’s new fall lineup has a lot of potential which I’m very excited about.  With returning shows like Law & Order SVU, which is going into its eighteenth season, the highly successful One Chicago universe, who is adding a 4th show to their lineup in the spring, The Blacklist, Blindspot, and The Voice with an interesting new addition to the coaches (Miley Cyrus?!), they are entering with a slightly light, but strong return of their already existing shows.

However it’s NBC’s new fall shows that are giving them an extra push into this 2016 fall season.  Probably one of the most anticipated shows of the new season is This Is Us, an emotional look into the lives of a connected group of people.  The show’s cast hooked me from announcements, and the emotional promos that have been released guarantee it will be my new favorite “grab a box of tissues and bottle of wine” show.

The Good Place pairs Kristen Bell and Ted Danson in a quirky new comedy about a woman who is sent, in error, to “the Good Place” after death.  From everything I’ve seen about this so far it’s going to elevate NBC’s now missing comedy genre. (I’m still not over The Office and Parks ending, okay?) As a fan of Kristen Bell since her Veronica Mars days, I’m looking forward to her being back on my tv and believe it will be fun to see the comedic side she’s shown throughout her career.

NBC is also premiering a time travel show this fall called Timeless, and I’m cautiously optimistic about it. Overall, time travel hurts my head (I’m looking at you The Flash and Legends) but I love history and the concept of having to save history from a time traveling bad guy intrigues me. Maybe it’s my love of the already established Legends of Tomorrow on The CW which has a very similar concept that is drawing me to this show, but whatever it is, I’m going to give it a chance.

NBC and I have had a very tentative relationship over the last few years. I’ll admit it,I can hold a grudge, and I’ll never get over them canceling Chuck, but I’m very excited for what NBC has to offer this fall. With such strong contenders added to the lineup I have to wonder if this will be the year that NBC finally wins me back over and takes over my nights again.
